Colchester Junior Chess Club Hosts Successful Train-and-Play Workshop

On Sunday, June 11th, the Colchester Junior Chess Club hosted its first train-and-play workshop at Prettygate Junior School, which was a tremendous success. The event saw junior chess players grouped into beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. They learned various chess topics throughout the day from experienced coaches, including IM Richard Pert, WIM Natasha Regan, Robin Slade, and Michael Catabay. Participants also played three ECF-rated chess games between sessions to apply the concepts learned.

The coaches brought great energy and enthusiasm to the event, and the participants enjoyed engaging in discussions and playing in the tournament. Jason Ren, one of the participants, said, "I had lots of fun learning chess with my friends for a whole day! I played lots of chess and even won a prize."

During lunch, the players participated in a simul with all the coaches, including Max Pert and John Cawdery. James Beer emerged victorious, while Joshua Kenny, Jason Ren, Mae Catabay, and Jacob Broad all achieved a draw. Congratulations to everyone for their excellent performance!

At Colchester Junior Chess Club, we're passionate about inspiring and supporting junior chess players, and this train-and-play workshop was an excellent opportunity to do precisely that. We're already looking forward to planning our next event and can't wait to see more junior chess players getting involved.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who participated in the event, our fantastic guest coaches, and the volunteers who helped make it a success. We could not have done it without you!
