Colchester Junior Chess Club has had a break over the summer, but some of our juniors are back for our special summer classes. On Tuesday, we were thrilled to welcome Nathan Barnes and Felix Schnell, both of the Colchester Chess Club, along with John Lambert of the Clacton Chess Club, who graciously shared their expertise in chess with the juniors. They were paired to play while they gave instruction during their games. This was fantastic practice for the juniors to challenge the experienced players and get constructive 1:1 feedback on their performance.
After playing several games, Nathan Barnes, Team Captain of Colchester Chess Club, divided the group into teams, where they competed to gain points while going through the game - V. Akopian - E. Bareev 2003, from the book, "Test your chess with Daniel King" by GM Daniel King. They all enjoyed the challenge of predicting the best moves of the game and winning points based on whether they were correct. In the end, Mae, Ethan and Grace claimed victory with the highest points!
